Day 10 May 31, 2008
We woke this morning in Port Hardy, BC marina with good weather reports and calm seas. We pulled lines at 5:30 am and departed Port Hardy to travel around Cape Caution and arrived in Fury Cove at 3pm under beautiful blue skies.
We only had about 1 foot chop for a while and the swells from the ocean were only about 3 feet at the worse but pretty comfy for open ocean. It was a nice crossing.
As we were approaching the entrance to Fury cove we were entertained by two humpback whales who put on a show with flukes waiving, tails splashing and in general having a grand time, as if to say “you made it across, welcome back”
We entered the cove, dropped anchor and enjoyed a relaxing evening and actually went to bed around 9pm. (Which is early for us since it was still daylight but we were ready to count sheep)
One side note we would like to say, The eagles in many areas especially Port Harvey, Port Hardy and now further north both in Fury Cove and Bella Bella have been extremely numerous. While underway in Fitz Hugh Sound, we even watched 4 eagles attempting to feed in the open water and one even landed on the water and took off with its catch, just an amazing sight.
