Omega, Saoirse and Code Blue left Thomas Basin at 6:30am for the Ketchikan’s fuel dock. They opened at 7am and we wanted to be first. It was amazing we all fit on the front part of the fuel dock. Over 1
00 ft. of sailboats all waiting for the attendant to open. Open Open Open….. says our thristy sailboats.Quite a site. Saoirse, a floatplane and 3 cruise ships in Ketchikan, Alaska. We are leaving Ketchikan, AK.
By 7:25 we were on our way, with full water, fuel, clean clothes and bodies, headed up Tongass Narrows under blue skies with the temp 59 in the shade, to Santa Anna Inlet for the night. (Thank goodness for red dot heaters – which is just like the heater in your cars. Nice)
It is another long day since the weather report says “Wind and Rain” we wanted to get out of the big water (Clarence Strait) into Ernest Sound into more sheltered areas to explore. As it turned out, we had a gorgeous day, with calm seas and blue skies.We had Dall’s porpoise on the bow with the Omega for a short time, but Code Blue, Steve and J
udy had a humpback close to their boat and white sided dolphins around them for quite a while. It was fun watching the splashing going on at the sides and the bow of their boat from the dolphins.It is 3pm and the seas are calm and the weather is perfect, beautiful blue skies with just a few white puffy clouds.
A long day of 51 miles but a very good day. Daleen had time to update and log her pictures on the laptop, while underway, and catch up on some paperwork while Captain John motored along Clarence Strait into Ernest Sound and the beautiful calm Santa Anna Inlet, where there were already 6 sailboats anchored. While John was checking out the lay of the anchorage, circling a couple boats and one of the other captains, already anchored, announced we had a convoy!! 9 sailboats in Santa Anna, John said he hadn’t heard that phrase for a long time…
We had a beautiful evening…
