Day 69 July 29, 2008
We left Petersburg around 10am. What a beautiful trip we had over to Wrangell with warm sunshine. We actually were able to sit in the cockpit with a t-shirt and it was warm. Awesome!! We headed south down Wrangell Narrows with calm seas even though the wind was blowing 20 knots off and on right on our nose. We flew through Wrangell Narrows with the current. When we exited Wrangell Narrows the tide and current turned right and we turned left, with our speed dropping to around 4 knots and we slowly proceeded on to Wrangell; skirting around the edge of a large rain squall. As we entered Wrangell harbor, the wind eased off and we secured Omega alongside the transient dock. What a wonderful ride on a wonderful sunny day.

For the past 3 days, we have relaxed and just enjoyed Wrangell and being on the Omega in short sleeves. We were able to open our windows and sit in the cockpit and just enjoy the area. We took walks around Wrangell and Daleen got her first Barber shop haircut. --Grandma’s Barber Shop-- Turned out perfect but I have to say, while I was waiting while she cut the two men in front of me, I was ready to jump ship and just wait for a much needed haircut but with courage and trust, I sit in the barber chair and politely told her not quite as short as those two men before me. 15 minute haircut it what I got and it was perfect! She has lived in Wrangell since 1950 was very interesting to talk with.
We want to visit the Anan Wildlife Observatory, which is 30 miles southeast of Wrangell. Since they allow only 60 people per day into the area, during July 5 and August 25, we called upon arriving in Wrangell to hopefully get our reservations. We were told to call back in the morning around 8am to see if they had been any cancellations and/or to maybe attain last minute reservations that opened up for that day. They save a certain number of reservations for last minute so we were able to get our reservations for Saturday August 2 for Don, Diane, John and Daleen.
We slipped lines from the Wrangell dock at 11:15am to head to Anan Wildlife area……..ready for our adventure tomorrow.
