September 7-9 Day 108We woke to another beautiful day in Prideaux Haven. It is wonderful to open your eyes in the morning and see blue sky through the hatch and feel calm seas…
Today we are taking Don and Diane fishing for lingcod or anything they might catch, just to have a fun filled day. We lifted anchor and away Omega and Saoirse went. We have enjoyed many delicious fish dinners aboard Helen Marie and we wanted to try to catch some to share.
Well, John hadn’t had his hook in the water for 5 minutes and he had a strike. Daleen
just had put her hook in the water and John called “fish”… How exciting. John caught a beautiful lingcod that was a keeper size… 25 ¼ inches long. It wasn’t 10 minutes later, Don brought a beautiful blue lingcod aboard that was 24 inches long. Wow fish for dinner tonight.John wanted me to include my lingcod catch for the day. Yes, a 4 inch lingcod, we carefully put back to grow 
up. We have not seen such a small lingcod.... Cute... Look closely....

Then they both caught a nice size rockfish. Limited out and we headed back to check our prawn traps. 113 prawns in our two traps.
It was such a fun day. While we went fishing, Lee & Rosey kayaked over to the head of a trail and took a hike. We called them when we anchored around 7:30pm and told them we were exhausted and they also said they had a full day with their hike. We decided to forego dinner for the evening. We also told Lee and Rosey they were invited to a Lingcod dinner the next night. We enjoyed cocktails in the cockpit with Saoirse and we all slept great.
The weather continues to be beautiful. We woke up to another spectacular day, left Prideaux Haven to pick up our prawn traps and head to Refuge Cove to do laundry, get water and have our fish dinner. Mike and Chris, Lee and Rosey’s longtime friends arrived at Refuge Cove and we had a nice evening and enjoyed prawns & John and Don’s lingcods for dinner along with delicious potato salad by Diane and homemade sourdough bread and bean salad by Daleen. Rosey fixed a yummy dessert. Again, it was nice to chit chat about our summers and what we have
been doing… Mike and Chris had just come from their daughter’s wedding so they are in much need of some R & R… they will be able to spend a couple weeks in Desolation Sound before heading home.
We had a beautiful sunset!!

und 8am we sadly said good-bye for now to Don and Diane. It was wonderful seeing them again and so glad we had a chance to fish and prawn before they head south.
We are leaving
this afternoon to pick up our prawn traps and anchor in Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island, then on to Quartz Bay on the opposite side of Cortes Island to get together with Ken and Kenna.
