Humpback Whales in Alaska

Aug 1-4 We have had such a great time, just watching whales the past few days.  We have seen Orca & Humpbacks.  The Humpback whales have breached, bubble-netted, dove, swam and we have enjoyed it all in awe.  They are such magnificent creatures of the ocean.... I do have to say, we love watching Orcas but we are not blessed with humpbacks in the San Juan Islands, so this is such a treat to see them each day we are out.  To be in the Company of Whales is a blessing and we are always grateful they allow us to see their majesty.  It was also enjoyable to watch the seagulls fight for leftovers and a few sea lions wanted their share.

When we first arrived to Auke Bay, we were hailed by another boat and much to our surprise it was Blain & Monique aboard BOB a 50ft Catalina sailboat, Beautiful....  We originally met them a few years ago in Butchart Gardens, British Columbia.  They also had a Saturna pilothouse sailboat like ours.... So we had much to talk about..  It was nice to catch up.  They now run a Charter Company - Sound Sailing in Alaska.

We spent a night in St James and then went over to Funter Bay and met up with Blain and Monique again.  It is a small world....

I'm still shocked that Auke Bay is so popular and always full.  We had to settle for the breakwater today, which is okay, since we are leaving first thing in the morning, due to the 8am checkout in the Juneau area.....  Who leaves that early all the time??

We are going to start meandering south Aug 5 and visit anchorages we have not seen and some we want to return to.  We love the beauty of the wildlife, scenery & traveling.
