Aug 7 Snug Cove - Gambier Bay

We both had been looking forward to Snug Cove and we were not disappointed.  It takes one hour to get into the beautiful Snug Cove anchorage.  There were 3 other boats in the harbor with room for 3 dozen or more.  There are many possible anchorages in Gambier Bay.  The sky was blue again with calm seas.  What a break in the weather we are having..

Short-lived 

August 8, we left Snug Cove and are headed to Portage Bay with a non-eventful forecast.  

Big mistake!!!

After a couple hours the wind started blowing and the waves got bigger as we crossed Frederick Sound. 

Not scary but we had 6 hours of Omega pitching up and crashing down on the seas throwing spray in all directions.   Exhausting... SE 25-30 knot winds with 4-5 foot seas for over 6 hours!!!.  which was, of course, the way we were heading.  We did try to change direction to a different anchorage, but alas the seas & wind would be on our beam and make us roll.

Again un-forecasted wind & seas.

Sometimes we wondered when it would calm down.  It usually does sooner but not today.  Due to the wind on our bow, Omega's speed was reduced from 5-6 to between 2-4 knots. A very long 40 mile day.   The wind didn't die down until we entered Portage Bay anchorage.  

We arrived safe & sound  & anchored Omega with 4 knots of wind.   Omega all closed up & we are ready for bed, after a nice soup & cornbread dinner we are reading and ready to call it a day.  And what a day it was.  We wouldn't want too many like today.
