What a beautiful time we had in Potts Lagoon. It is very quiet with calm waters and just a
lovely evening & morning. We lifted
anchor around 10:30 to catch the small current into Lagoon Cove.
We have always enjoyed our visits to Lagoon Cove but this visit is
bittersweet. Bill and Jean have owned
Lagoon Cove for approx. 24 years. After
20 years Bill died after a brief illness of cancer in April 2013. Jean has operated the family owned marina
with help for the past 4 years since Bill’s death. What a job.
We arrived to the marina with help at the dock and friendly
smiles. We have since found out that
Jean found a buyer for the marina and it will remain a family owned
business. Jim & Lou Ryan along
with their daughter Kelly and her husband Dan are the new owners. They plan to continue Lagoon Cove with all
the great memories and fun we have enjoyed over the years. We wish them much luck and success. Jean will be able to spend more time with her
family. She told John she was almost 80
and it was time to be with her family more.
For the past 20 years, the day after Labor Day, Lagoon Cove
along with Tonya’s great catch and
cooking of halibut, have their annual Halibut fish fry. It is a potluck that was enjoyed by all. It was a great couple days of memories and fun.
We left Lagoon Cove and motored over to Port Harvey to see
how George and his wife were doing after their restaurant and store sank
earlier this year. Their docks were fine
but they still haven’t figured out why the building sank to this day. But they now have floatation under it and it
will not do it again. They are in the
process of re-building.
The rains continue to be with us as we head south to
Desolation South.
