2014 Cruise on the Omega to Barkley Sound

After finishing last minute maintenance and packing on the Omega, we left our slip in Anacortes June 21st.  Don & Diane aboard Saoirse had met up with us at our marina on June 19th so we were good to go.  It looked like we had a weather window so all systems were go.  

We spent the first night in MacKaye Bay on the south end of Lopez Island.  It ended up being a very rocky evening.  The waves finally stopped and it was time to head out toward Victoria to check in with customs over the phone with our Nexus.  

Upon leaving MacKaye Bay the weather was good and we had the tide with us for most of the day.  We ended up staying in Sooke Basin after a quick trip into Victoria for customs and a smooth passage through Race Passage.  We had a calm evening which was very much needed after our stay in MacKaye Bay.

We left Sooke Basin at the crack of dawn to catch the ebbing tide to get out of the narrow and shallow entrance of the Basin.  The winds averaged 15-20 knots most of the day with 5 ft swells every 9 seconds.  The washing machine effect of the seas get a little old after 6+ hours.  But we entered Port Renfrew in Port San Juan and settled down for a relaxing evening.
