Sunset from Greenway Sound

We are leaving Greenway Sound this morning and heading to Waddington Bay and then on to Port McNeill. The rain has returned to the Broughtons which is pretty normal for the end of August and it is time for us to head south in the next few days.

Yesterday, we took a awesome dinghy ride to explore the eastern entrance to Carter Passage which is not passable in Omega. The east entrance dries at low tide and there were rapids running through the narrow entrance. Pictures do not do the small rapids justice. The sound of the running water is exciting in itself. Lee said, you want to go in??? We said sure…. **smile** John & Daleen followed Lee & Rosey through the entrance.

Imagine this big rock in the middle showing just shy of 2 feet. Because of the water action, we knew we needed to go to the left of the big rock. What we didn’t count on were 2 bigger rocks under the surface around 6-10 feet past the big rock, one right after the other. The water was running pretty fast so once you were in the current you lost some steerage and the underwater rocks came pretty fast one right after the other about 6 feet apart….We landed dead center on both of them but got caught on the second one, John spun us around to clear us off the rock. We have a hard bottom boat and had the outboard engines lifted, John was using the oars to direct the boat…so nothing was hurt and what a thrill.

It was a fun outing but with the rain showers off and on it felt good to be back in our boat, dry and warm….. We are now white water rafters!!!
