Anacortes, WA to Nanaimo, B.C.

Continued preparation - May 20, 2008
We had planned on leaving our slip in Anacortes, WA May 20th but with Daleen returning from Kansas on May 17th, the turnaround time took a little longer than expected. We arrived at the Omega, our sailboat, on May 20th, packed away the many necessary items, ran back into town for last minute produce and forgotten items, visited with friends and we now are ready both emotionally and physically to leave for a wonderful summer to Alaska.

Day 1 May 22, 2008
John slipped the lines on the Omega around noon, we topped off with diesel in Skyline Marina and left the entrance to our marina at 12:30 May 22, 2008.

We checked into Canadian customs around 8:10pm, via our CanPass, in Montague Harbour. We saw the sleek and fast moving Dall’s porpoise during the day, relaxed for the evening and woke up to blue skies Friday morning May 23.

Friday evening after enjoying dinner on the Omega, we decided to take the Hummingbird bus to the Hummingbird Pub for drinks and dessert, which in itself is an adventure, which consist of a singing & dancing bus driver and riders if you so desire, to 50’s music. What a ride!!

We go for the hummingbirds and they didn’t disappoint us. Amazing. Buzzing and zooming all around us.

We made it back in time to the Omega to enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Our friends, Don and Diane had last minute problems with their high pressure fuel pump on Saoirse so we are slowing our pace to try to let them catch up after they go back in the water on May 27th.

Day 3, May 24, 2008
We left Montague Harbour at 8am to make the slack at Dodd Narrows at 12:58. We arrived at Nanaimo Yacht Club reciprocal moorage at 2pm Saturday. Gosh what a gorgeous day. Blue skies, 75 degree temp’s and a nice breeze. The water and skies are deep blue and downtown Nanaimo is shining in the sunlight. I think it might be naptime!!

Wish you were here.

Day 4, Sunday May 25, 2008

We decided to do the tourist thing today and purchased a day pass for the Nanaimo City transit system. We seem to always be in a hurry to get north and since we are slowing down to allow Don and Diane to catch up we decided to tour Nanaimo area and take in a movie. John woke up bright and early and walked downtown to get information and schedules. We had breakfast and what a day we had. Daleen had been wanting to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so away we went. Harrison Ford is not bad to look at for a couple hours. “Right Ladies??” The temperatures were in the 80’s and what a beautiful day. John was a trooper to walk through 2 malls and other stores with me today. You go John….

Day 5, Monday May 26, 2008

Another beautiful day in Nanaimo.

John washed the salt off Omega, while Daleen straightened our approx 150 square feet of living space. **smile**

We arrived at the Nanaimo Library this morning to check our email and update our blog. Slow connection to work on blog and we heard about this charming coffee shop "The Vault" Great highspeed internet. My place to be!!

We heard from Don & Diane today and they are through Canadian customs and proceeding North. We hope to see them tomorrow. Good news….. Then we will be on our way toward Campbell River and infamous Seymour Narrows.
